53rd Annual Lunar New Year Gala Honors Community Leaders, Celebrates Year of the Dog

CPC is excited to announce that the generous donors of our 2018 Lunar New Year Gala, held on February 22nd, raised a record $406,000 to support needed services for Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities.

The event honored Tai and Tony Wang, founders of WAC Lighting and the Glow Foundation, for their significant contributions to the community, City Council Speaker Corey Johnson for his civic leadership, the CPC Nan Shan Senior Center Advisory Board for their dedication to the community, and CPC’s Asian Family Services program for their exemplary work with children and families. Congresswoman Grace MengNew York State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, and New York City’s Commissioner of the Administration for Children’s Services David Hansell presented awards to honorees. Journalist Ernabel Demillo and actor/director Alan Muraoka served as masters of ceremonies.

We were joined by more than 1,000 guests, including elected officials, community partners, business executives, and philanthropic leaders. Assemblymembers Peter Abbate and Yuh-Line NIouState Senator Brian Kavanagh, Public Advocate Letitia James, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and Councilmembers Justin Brannan, Margaret Chin, and Peter Koo were among those who joined CPC in celebrating the Lunar New Year.​ Moët Hennessy provided exclusive beverages, and LVMH provided Diamond Level sponsorship. 

During the event, CPC Board Chair Veronica Tsang remarked, “Last year, more than 48,148 people accessed CPC services. Over the last 53 years, CPC has transformed thousands of lives. To this day, we continue our mission to advance and transform communities." Students from CPC's After-School Program at P.S. 124 performed a lion dance to bring good luck and good fortune.
