CPC Brooklyn Community Services Partners with AABANY on a Legal Clinic

On October 14th, CPC Brooklyn Community Services hosted a legal clinic in partnership with the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY). 18 community members and families received free, linguistically accessible legal consultation from AABANY volunteer attorney on matters ranging from housing and estate planning to personal injury and immigration.

On September 16th, CPC Brooklyn Community Services brought together over 1000 community members of all ages at Leif Ericson Park for the 13th Annual Health and Family Resource Fair. The event featured cultural performances and offered essential health services and family resources, including screenings, flu vaccinations, and cardio demonstrations.

CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center Hosts Round Two of the 'Talent is Timeless’ Competition

On August 9th, CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center hosted the second round of NYC Department for the Aging's 'Talent is Timeless' Competition. Performers from various centers throughout Brooklyn, including the Council of Peoples Organization and the Spanish Speaking Elderly Council-RAICES, came together to celebrate and showcase their dancing, singing, and performance skills.

On July 13th, CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center hosted its first 'Talent is Timeless' competition. The event was part of the New York City Department for the Aging's new initiative to recognize and celebrate the diverse talent among the older adult community. Over 40 community members participated and showcased their incredible abilities across various disciplines, including singing, dancing, instrumental performances, martial arts, and more.

Brooklyn Community Center Unveils Rooftop Garden in Celebration of Earth Day

On April 22nd, CPC Brooklyn Senior Services celebrated Earth Day with the opening of the rooftop garden. Members of the community gathered to partake in the planting of flowers, vegetables, and herbs. The garden was made possible through a joint effort between the center and our partners, which included NYU Langone, Brooklyn Grange, and Earth Matters.

On October 16, 2022, CPC Brooklyn Community Services in partnership with APAMSA, CAMS, and SUNY Downstate, held a Flu Vaccination and Hepatitis B Screening clinic at CPC Brooklyn Community Center. Through our clinic, 64 community members received the flu vaccination.

On October 14, 2022, Brooklyn Community Center Geriatric Mental Health Initiative Program (GMHI) visited the Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm as part of our monthly tea talk series. CPC staff and 20 community members had a chance to learn about and provide feedback on urban farming.

CPC Brooklyn Senior Services Joins CaringKind's Annual Alzheimer's Walk

On September 25th, over 40 older adult members of CPC Brooklyn Senior Services took part in the annual Alzheimer's Walk on Coney Island organized by CaringKind. The goal of the Walk is to promote awareness and support for the Alzheimer's caregiving campaign. CPC raised more than $2,000 to support the mission of CaringKind.

The panel focused on the practices community members developed to confront the pandemic and a disturbing rise in anti-Asian hate and violence amid a national reckoning in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a culturally significant holiday celebrated by Chinese, Vietnamese, and other Asian communities. CPC community members enjoyed annual Mid-Autumn Festival activities including celebratory gatherings and hundreds of mooncakes. The Chinese American Planning Council’s Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Services program (CPC ECLW) is proud to announce the commencement of three new 120-hour Child Development Associate credential (CDA) courses in Chinese, English, and Spanish. CPC ECLW is presently the only organization that offers the 120-hour CDA course in Chinese.

Tea Talk is a group counseling session where our community members meet with, chat, and provide feedback to our Geriatric Mental Health Initiative (GMHI) team over tea and refreshments as a strategy to combat isolation which often leads to anxiety and depression.

Happy Thanksgiving from CPC Brooklyn Community Services to all our seniors. On November 19th, CPC Brooklyn Senior Services hosted a holiday luncheon for over 150 senior members at LaoJie HotPot. Our seniors were able to enjoy an All You Can Eat Hot Pot meal.
