CPC Older Adult Centers Dominate City’s “Talent is Timeless” Competition

Five groups from CPC's older adult programs across Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn have advanced to the next round of NYC Aging's Talent is Timeless competition. Our performers include The Rising Star Choir and Xinjiang Dance Group from Brooklyn OAC, The Nan Shan Musical Ensemble from Nan Shan OAC, Phoenix Dance Group from Chinatown OAC, and The Open Door Dance Troupe from Open Door OAC. These performers will now continue onto the citywide finals in September, where they will face off against dozens of other older New Yorkers from the five boroughs.
Talent is Timeless is a program of New York City’s Department for the Aging that showcases the spirit, resilience, and limitless potential of older adults, offering them a platform to demonstrate their abilities, while also challenging ageist stereotypes.
CPC serves more than 5,000 older New Yorkers at its Nan Shan Older Adult Center in Queens and the NY Chinatown Older Adult Center and Open Door Senior Center in Manhattan, providing solace, aid, and social activities to city’s expanding population.
In addition to nutritious, family-style meals, English instruction, and social service case assistance, each center offers robust arts & culture programming. Older adults can show off their fine art in exhibits, give music performances, learn calligraphy, and more. All of the centers strive to preserve and expand senior services and programs, including those which propelled the Talent is Timeless winners to success with hours spent rehearsing each week with their peers at the centers.
