On June 14th, CPC joined APA VOICE, local representatives, and partners to emphasize the significance of the upcoming primary elections and the importance of outreach efforts within AAPI communities. Represented by Steve Mei, Director of Brooklyn Community Services; Caroline Scown, Civic Engagement Manager; and Daniel Yan, Civic Engagement Intern, CPC shared our achievements in educating over 200 community members about the electoral process and Ranked Choice Voting.

CPC Teams Up with Local Partners to Provide Affordable Vegetables for the Community

On June 13th, CPC teamed up with local partners in the Harvest Share program that aims to promote healthier eating habits and foster a tighter-knit community. Every week, starting from June 13th until October 31st, participants can pick up farm-fresh crops at Brooklyn Grange at reduced prices.

CPC Open Door Senior Center Fosters Intergenerational Connections Through Workshops

On June 13th, CPC Open Door Senior Center partnered with the Sara Roosevelt Park Community Coalition to host a poetry and drama workshop, connecting individuals from different age groups through shared experiences and creative expression. The event welcomed 10 students aged 12-14, accompanied by their teachers from Avenues School. The students participated in meaningful conversations with older adults in Mandarin and engaged in a guessing game, where they conveyed messages through body language and facial expressions.

CPC Stands in Solidarity with Human Services Organizations on the Day Without Human Services

On May 25th, CPC temporarily paused the majority of our programming and mobilized nearly 400 staff and community members to join over 5,000 individuals to advocate for better wages and benefits at the Day Without Human Services rally at City Hall. The rally served as a platform to advocate for a 6.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in the final City budget, highlighting the importance of fair compensation for those dedicated to serving the community.

On May 20th, CPC, the Center for Fiction, and the Brooklyn Conservatory for Music hosted a family day event at the Beacon Community Center in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month. From book readings by acclaimed children's author Grace Lin to musical performances by Annie Chen, attendees of all ages were immersed in the AAPI culture. Moreover, author and professor Ava Chin, in conversation with CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho, shed light on the Chinese American experience through her new book.
