On September 9th, CPC's President & CEO, Wayne Ho, and Director of Childhood Development Services, Mary Cheng, joined elected officials and community leaders as Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to make Lunar New Year a statewide school holiday. This achievement is the result of years of advocacy. It acknowledges the cultural significance of Lunar New Year and promotes inclusivity within the educational system, providing students the opportunity to celebrate with their families and communities.

Thank you to the leadership of bill sponsors Senator Brian Kavanagh, Assemblymember William Colton, and Assemblymember Grace Lee, and to the long-time advocacy of Congresswoman Grace Meng, Senators John Liu and Iwen Chu, and Assemblymembers Ron Kim, Jenifer Rajkumar, Zohran Kwame Mamdani, and Marcela Mitaynes.
