On June 15th, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center (OAC) hosted a community panel discussion in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Over 70 older adults and a multidisciplinary panel of experts participated to raise awareness and educate community members about available resources.

The panel featured professionals from legal, financial, healthcare, and social service fields, including representatives from CPC, OceanFirst Bank, the New York Foundation for Senior Citizens, Adult Protective Services, and the Department of Social Services. A survivor of elder abuse, who is also a member of the older adult center, provided a written statement on the impact of abuse.

Panelists addressed financial exploitation, neglect, social isolation, and barriers to seeking help, with particular attention to challenges facing Asian American older adults, including language barriers and cultural stigma. The event reinforced that preventing elder abuse is a shared community responsibility requiring ongoing education, vigilance, and cross-sector collaboration.
