  • Wayne Ho Discusses Mission-Driven Partnerships on New Podcast

    On March 25th, Wayne Ho, President and CEO of CPC, joined host Dorian Lam, CEO of Cornerstone Land Abstract, on the podcast Start With the Close in Mind to discuss how mission-driven organizations evaluate potential development partners. Wayne highlighted the Broom Street Development Project with Gotham Organization, which includes CPC One, a 40,000 square foot community center serving 15,000 people annually, along with 210 units of affordable housing and a renovated synagogue. He mentioned that CPC seeks partners who share its commitment to community empowerment and recognize the complexities of nonprofit operations and government funding. Partners must also understand the cultural context of the Chinese-American and immigrant communities CPC serves.

  • CPC Marks Pi Day with Call to Pass the PIE Food Security Package

    On March 14th, also known as Pi Day, CPC organized a "PIE Day of Action" alongside community members, elected officials, and advocates to urge the passage of the Protect, Invest, and Expand (PIE) Food Security Package. The event, held at CPC One, highlighted the importance of the package in strengthening protections for benefits, investing in state nutrition programs, and expanding food assistance to ensure community members have access to food amid rising costs and surging demand at food pantries. Special thanks to Assemblymember Marcela Mitaynes; representatives from Assemblymember Grace Lee’s office; Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso; as well as Red Hook Initiative, Part of the Solution, and United Way of New York City for joining us.

  • CPC and Allies Urge Fair Wages for Human Services Workers in amNY Op-Ed

    On March 12th, amNY published an op-ed co-written by CPC, NMIC, and Lutheran Social Services of New York, advocating for #JustPay for human services workers and #FairPay4HomeCare workers in New York. The article highlights that home care workers are essential to caring for our community members in need, yet they remain trapped in a wage crisis. The op-ed calls on Albany to address the urgent need to increase workers' wages to match rising costs, warning that anything less constitutes a pay cut. It also notes that recent wage gains, such as the increase for home care workers to $19.65 per hour in New York City, are undermined when the state fails to fully fund them in contracts, shifting the burden to nonprofits and causing financial strains that destabilize the very safety net New Yorkers rely on.

  • CPC Hosts Mental Health Forum on AAPI Community Disparities and Care

    On March 10th, CPC hosted a Mental Health Forum titled "Building and Strengthening Mental Health in AAPI Communities" and brought together over 100 practitioners and social work students for professional development and networking. The forum explored how social determinants impact mental health awareness among AAPI individuals, highlighting elevated suicide rates among seniors, women, and college students and low treatment engagement. Keynote speaker Dr. Chau Trinh-Shevrin and a clinical psychologist panel featuring Dr. Doris Chang, Dr. Vanessa Li, Dr. Yihou (Mike) Zhou, and Dr. Thomas Kui emphasized the need for culturally competent care and community collaboration.

  • CPC and CPCHAP Join Home Care Workers and Lawmakers in Albany to Advocate for Home Care Workers

    On March 9th, CPC, our subsidiary CPCHAP, and home care workers joined 1199SEIU at the New York State Capitol for their home care advocacy day, alongside elected officials including State Senator Gustavo Rivera. The team met with elected officials, advocate for the #JustPay campaign for human services workers and #FairPay4HomeCare, and urged state leaders to improve wages and working conditions for the essential workers who support New York’s most vulnerable communities.

  • Over 500 Brooklynites Join Lunar New Year Celebration Hosted by CPC and Partners

    On March 7th, CPC, New York City Economic Development Corporation, RaisingHealth Partners, and Chinatown Records hosted a vibrant Lunar New Year Celebration, drawing more than 500 community members to MADE Bush Terminal in Brooklyn. The event brought together immigrant families, local residents, and elected officials for an afternoon of cultural celebration, community services, and resources marking the close of the Lunar New Year season. Festivities included lion dancers, live music, cultural performances, and health screenings—alongside a coat giveaway with New York Cares, a fresh grocery distribution from GrowNYC, and gift bags for the first 300 attendees.

Attendees came eager to connect, learn, and explore new career paths. They were met by 25 employer and community partners offering immediate hiring opportunities and career-building resources. From healthcare and social services to retail and administration, employers represented a wide range of industries ready to welcome new talent.

  • CPC Celebrates Resilience, Unity, and Community Impact at Annual Lunar New Year Gala

    On March 5th, CPC hosted our annual Lunar New Year Gala at Pier 60, Chelsea Piers, bringing together 580 guests in celebration of 61 years of service to immigrant and low-income New Yorkers. The gala raised over $1 million, with 100% of proceeds directly supporting CPC's expansion of services and advocacy for community members, as well as supporting our human services, home care, and affordable housing workers. The gala celebrated three distinguished honorees for their contributions to the community: Pitta & Baione LLP, Peggy Sheng, and Chang M. Liu. Each was recognized for their profound impact on the lives of community members served by CPC. Elected officials in attendance included Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Council Speaker Julie Menin, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Comptroller Mark Levine, Council Members Shekar Krishnan, Linda Lee, and Kevin Riley.

  • CPC Statement on Misinformation Circulated by Ain't I A Woman Campaign

    The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is deeply concerned and disappointed that the Ain’t I A Woman Campaign staff and organizers—not the home care workers—continue to mischaracterize legal proceedings to attack CPC. Most recently, they circulated a flyer distorting the facts and spreading false claims about a New York Supreme Court decision to falsely target CPC.

  • CPC Joins Elected Officials on Stopping SNAP Skimming as Food Insecurity Worsens

    On March 3rd, CPC joined Congressman Dan Goldman and Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal at CPC’s Open Door Older Adult Center for a press conference to stop SNAP skimming benefits. Fraudsters have been stealing benefits from vulnerable New Yorkers, forcing parents to skip meals so their children can eat and leaving older adults to line up at food pantries as early as 3 a.m. During the press conference, Wayne Ho, President and CEO of CPC, highlighted our latest policy report that shows the devastating impact of federal budget cuts on food security for AAPI and immigrant communities in New York City.
