  • Carlyn Cowen Recognized for Advocacy Work Benefiting NYC Communities

    On October 18th, Carlyn Cowen, CPC's Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, was recognized for her impactful policy and advocacy work at the 3rd Annual Filipino American History Month Celebration and Resource Fair in Elmhurst. She was celebrated for advancing health care access, securing essential human services funding, and championing social justice. These essential efforts have benefited communities across New York City. The honor was presented jointly by the Office of Assemblymember Steven Raga, the Office of Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, the National Federation of Filipino American Associations, and the Filipino American National Historical Society of Metro New York.

  • CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center Shines on 'Good Day New York'

    On October 15th, CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center was featured live on FOX 5 New York's 'Good Day New York,' highlighting their preparation for the grand finale of the Department of the Aging's 'Talent is Timeless' Competition. Steve Mei, Director of CPC Brooklyn Community Services, and Helen Chen, Director of the Brooklyn Older Adult Center, appeared alongside members of the Xinjiang Dance Team. During the interview, they discussed the community services offered by CPC and the diverse cultural and benefits support programs available at our older adult centers. They also highlighted the dedication and hard work the dance team has put into practicing for the upcoming competition.

  • Older Adults from Nan Shan OAC Cruise the Hudson and Enjoy the Fall Foliage

    On October 10th, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center (OAC) organized a day trip to upstate New York for a group of 56 community members. The itinerary was a celebration of the season, featuring apple picking at a local orchard, a scenic boat cruise along the Hudson River to admire the fall foliage from the water, and a buffet lunch that allowed everyone to socialize and share stories.

  • CPC Celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival with Community Members

    CPC celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with staff and community members at several sites. Activities included mooncake tasting, hands-on paper lantern crafting, and barbecues. The festival, which honors family, reunion, and gratitude, served not only as a cultural touchstone for many but also as a welcoming introduction to these traditions for newer community members.

  • CPC and Partners Unite for Sunset Park Block Party for Families

    On October 4th, CPC co-hosted a community block party in Sunset Park with Harvest Share and local partners. Centered on the theme of "Fostering Community Resilience," the event welcomed all residents with resource fairs, food giveaways, family-friendly face painting, and cultural performances—including a special showcase from a dancing group of our Brooklyn Older Adult Center. Local representatives including New York State Senator Stephen Chan and New York City Council Member Alexa Avilés supported and delivered remarks in support of the Sunset Park community.

  • CPC Celebrates 60th Anniversary with Benefit Recital at Carnegie Hall

    On October 3rd, CPC continued its 60th Anniversary celebration with an evening of music and community at the Mother and Son Two-Piano Benefit Recital at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall. The recital, featuring acclaimed pianists Michelle Chen Kuo and Christopher Kuo, transported audiences through a repertoire of Romantic-era masterpieces. Nearly 500 guests filled the hall for the full house performance, which raised nearly $120,000 in support of CPC’s mission to empower Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income families across New York City.

  • CPC Supports Showdown Chinatown and Celebrates Hip Hop Culture

    On September 27th, CPC presented a lion dance performance and supported Showdown Chinatown, a hip hop festival that celebrated the fusion of Chinese and Hip Hop culture while bridging communities and honoring immigrant contributions to New York City's cultural landscape. The event brought together tri-state area communities for a day of breaking battles, music, and cultural exchange. The festival featured competitions across multiple categories, including kids' breaking and adult 1v1 battles.

  • CPC Housing Residents Connect Through the Art of Tea

    On September 26th, residents from CPC Hong Ning Housing and CPC Norfolk Senior Housing participated in the Golden Tea biweekly workshop series. The series, which began in August and will conclude in January, is facilitated by our partners at Tea Arts and Culture. These sessions create multi-sensory, social tea experiences that help older adults connect with each other through the art of tea while enjoying varieties from around the world. The facilitators provide opportunities for conversation, storytelling, and shared enriching learning experiences.

    On September 26th, The Hill published a joint op-ed by CPC and the New York City Employment and Training Coalition (NYCETC) addressing the affordability crisis in New York City. The piece illustrates that resolving the crisis requires more than just housing subsidies—it also requires investment in higher wages that keep pace with the cost of living, career pathways to middle-class jobs with real mobility, and opportunities for building long-term wealth and stability.

At CPC, she provides executive leadership, shapes the organization’s communications strategy, and oversees messaging across multiple platforms.
