CPC Special Needs Team Speak Out Against NYC School Bus Delays Impacting Students with Special Needs

On September 18th, CPC’s Special Needs team, including Jacqueline Fan, Program Director of Queens Special Needs, and Cindy Chen, Family Support Coordinator, joined CPC staff, parents, advocates, and lawmakers outside the Department of Education headquarters to demand action on New York City's school bus system. Bringing both their personal experiences as parents and their expertise as CPC staff, they called for an immediate overhaul to guarantee safe, reliable, and accountable transportation for all students across the city.

On July 22nd, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and State Senator Iwen Chu held a press conference on e-bike safety at CPC Brooklyn Community Center. They were joined by Council Member Alexa Avilés, New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh and over 25 community leaders.

CPC Hosts Pro Bono Legal Clinic with AABANY

On July 13th, CPC hosted a pro bono legal clinic with the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY), the offices of Council Members Alexa Aviles and Justin Brannan, and State Senator Iwen Chu. The clinic was held at CPC Brooklyn Community Center.

CPC Hosts Summer Party to Celebrate Partners and Allies

On July 10th, CPC hosted a Summer Party at CPC One to connect with partners and allies. Over 200 guests, including Deputy Mayor Ana Almanzar, Michelle Jackson from the Human Services Council, and representatives from community-based organizations, schools, foundations, corporations, government agencies, and legislative offices, attended the event to celebrate CPC’s partnerships and the new space.

CPC Statement on the NYC FY2022-2023 Adopted Budget

New York, NY – New York City passed a historic $101 billion budget last night. The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is delighted to see critical investments that were made into human and legal service providers, the restoration of community schools, and funding for anti-hate violence programs. We are disappointed the budget missed the mark on a number of key issues that are needed for a just pandemic recovery, including deep cuts to the Department of Education.

CPC Meets With Over 60 Legislators to Discuss Community Needs on 4th Annual State Advocacy Days

CPC held our 4th Annual State Advocacy Days on Tuesday, February 15 and Wednesday, February 16th. CPC staff and community members met with over 60 New York State legislators to discuss how CPC has been supporting our communities during COVID-19, why it is critical that we fund our programs and human services staff, and how we need guaranteed healthcare, housing relief, and more for a just recovery. 

CPC Statement on Assembly Member Ron Kim’s Report 

The Chinese-American Planning Council Home Attendant Program Inc. (CPCHAP) – a subsidiary of the Chinese-American Planning Council Inc. (CPC) – provides critical, life-saving home care services to Medicaid patients, who cannot afford such services otherwise. We have no choice but to do so by following New York State Medicaid rules and requirements, as well as Department of Labor laws, court decisions, and union agreements. We have long called for the State to replace 24-hour home care cases with two 12-hour split shifts, which would be best for both workers and patients. This requires changes to State labor law and Medicaid funding rates.

78 Human Services and Community-Based Organizations Call on Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and Speaker Heastie to Pass NYHA This Session

CPC and Human Services Council organized a letter from 78 human services and community-based organizations in support of the New York Health Act. The bill has majority support in both houses, with one more day in session left for it to come to a vote on the floor. The organizations signing on urge the State to pass this bill by the end of session, guaranteeing healthcare for all New Yorkers. 

CPC Statement on Ending the 24-Hour Rule in NYS Home Care

The Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) and its subsidiary, the CPC Home Attendant Program, Inc. (HAP), are each in full support of home care workers who are calling for the end of the “24-hour workday.” The State must immediately end the 24-hour rule in favor of two 12-hour split shifts where home care workers are fully compensated for each hour worked.

CPC continues to serve over 150 English learners in 10 classes online. CPC's adult literacy classrooms, though remote, operate with the same staffing and curriculum. We want to thank our community members and partners for the outpouring of support and kindness as we respond to the devastating fire at 70 Mulberry Street which has led to the displacement of hundreds of our seniors. Unfortunately, we have not been able to access the space and have no definitive timeline for when or where CPC Chinatown Senior Center will be restored. 

CPC Community Members Provide Testimony in Support of Mixed-Use Project at City Council Zoning Subcommittee Hearing

On Thursday, January 30th, more than 100 staff and community members filled the City Council Chambers for testimony on CPC's mixed use project at the City Council’s Zoning Subcommittee Hearing. Ten partner organizations and 6 community members of CPC Project Reach testified in support of our project. The Zoning Subcommittee votes on February 12th and the Land Use Committee votes on February 13th on whether to advance CPC's project to the entire City Council on February 27th.

The Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) is excited to announce the elections of Veronica Tsang as Chair of its Board of Directors and William Tam as the Chair of the Board of Directors of its subsidiary, CPC Home Attendant Program, Inc. (CPCHAP).

CPC Donor Recognition Event a Success

CPC honored our generous community members at a Donor Appreciation Reception on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Hwa Yuan, a restaurant located at 42 East Broadway in Chinatown, Manhattan. The event was attended by more than 80 donors and friends of CPC.

Director of HIV/AIDS Services has been named a 2017 Health Rising Fellow

Binh V. Luu, director of HIV/AIDS Services has recently been announced as a 2017 Health Rising Leadership Fellow, one of only ten individuals across the country to receive this coveted honor.

In memory of Norman Lau-Kee

On May 31, 2017, CPC, the Chinatown Planning Council Housing Development Fund Company, and UnitedHealthCare celebrated the unveiling of the newly renovated Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly redesigned by Joe Franza.

Bruce N. Lederman Joins CPC Board of Directors

The Chinese-American Planning Council Inc. announces the appointment of Bruce N. Lederman as a new member of the board of directors. Lederman has more than 35 years of expertise in commercial real estate and intellectual property litigation.

CPC & NY State Assembly Celebrates the Newly Formed Asian Pacific American Legislative Task Force

On May 18, 2017, the NY State Assembly announced the formation of the Asian Pacific American Legislative Task Force (APALTF). This is the first time in New York State's history that a government body has been formed solely to represent the Asian American Pacific Islander community.

華人策劃協會（簡稱“華策會”）皇后區社區服務的各服務項目已搬入位於法拉盛41大道133-14號，名為“華策會皇后區社區服務中心”的新樓，服務項目包括社區服務，特殊家庭服務，青少年服務，職業培訓，福壽老人中心及將成立的托兒所及操場。

華策會在1973年在皇后區由一個工作人員開始為社區提供服務。在過去的幾十年的時間，我們目睹了華人，新移民及低收入家庭在皇后區的迅速增長，并成為全美人口最多元化的地區。華策會

在過去不足夠地方的舊址也服務了超過數千個家庭和個人，并意識到興建服務中心的必要性。
